Dont' let the bed bugs Bite... Sleep on Water!

Waterbeds are the most sanitary mattresses in the bedding market today.  Its surface is vinyl, and with easy maintenance can be wiped down rather quickly and can stay disinfected indefinitely.  No matter the procedure undertaken with a conventional mattress there is no guarantee that you can prevent dust mite infestation – not to mention bed bugs.  Now dust mites can turn a mattress into a metropolis.  It is estimated that 100,000 dust mites can be found in a square yard of conventional mattress.
A recent study revealed that approximately 50 million Americans suffer from some sort of allergen.  Nearly 25% of all allergy sufferers test positive for dust mites.  Dust mites feed off of dead skin cells which accumulate quite easily over the course of time on a conventional mattress.  So keeping dust mites off of your conventional mattress can turn into a battle, and there isn't any proven way to completely disinfect a conventional mattress.  Even with the most effective vacuums, dust mites prevail.  On the other hand, waterbed mattresses are vinyl and thus non-porous.  Dust mites don't have the luxury of hiding and multiplying on vinyl as they do on a conventional mattress.  Plus, dead skin cells won't pile up on your vinyl mattress with proper cleaning which is very easy and highly effective.  With nowhere to hide and reproduce, dust mites are much less interested in a vinyl habitat.
It has also been shown that asthma has a direct correlation to allergy sufferers.  With the allergens interrupting the normal processes of the body, breathing becomes affected and asthma sets in.  So with easy maintenance, and minimal cleaning, waterbeds aid in preventing both asthma and allergy conditions to those who suffer allowing for a more peaceful and enjoyable night's rest.  One other item to note is how much more sanitary a vinyl waterbed mattress is to a conventional mattress which helps to prevent other pests besides dust mites.
While dust mites are rather common with all bedding, bed bugs are becoming more of a nuisance as well.  Bed bugs are considered one of the hardest infestations to get rid of and it has been estimated that 20% of the population has had an encounter with them within their home at one time or another. They can lay up to 500 eggs in their lifetime and can survive for months without ever eating. They can withstand a wide range of temperatures from nearly freezing to over 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The hatchlings are so small that they can pass through a stitch-hole in a conventional mattress thus infesting your entire mattress.  Again, waterbed mattresses are vinyl and bed bugs don't have the luxuries available them as they do in a conventional mattress.  With easy maintenance and a quick wipe down, waterbed mattresses are the most sanitary bed on the market.  This should open your eyes to seeking better sleep, and wanting to look into sleeping on water!

Next week we will review all of the medical facts associated with waterbeds.
